Debut win for XS Racing Porsche 911RS

The Porsche 911RS built by XS Racing for Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship scored a class C4 victory first time out with Steven Smith and John Nichols on the Welsh Rally over the weekend (29/30 April). Defending BHRC champions Smith and Nichols had a superb run on round three of the championship to win class C4 and finish second overall in the post-historic category. For a brand new car to run over 100 stage miles on Epynt without missing a beat was testament to the preparation work by XS Racing.

“We’re absolutely delighted with that result,” said team boss Jon Cropper. “To take a virtually untried car to Epynt and come away with such a good result is a big achievement. For Steven to finish 40s ahead of the 911RS of Jimmy McRae just adds to the scale of our result!”

“We’ve had a really good rally,” reported Smith at the end of the 14th and final stage of a rally that claimed half of the starters. “The car has run like clockwork straight out of the box and so that’s a very good start.” Smith now lies second in the overall BHRC drivers’ points, just one point behind the leader, while Nichols

has a substantial 22-point lead in the co-drivers’ standings.
After two 13-mile stages on Saturday, the rally continued with another 12 stages
on Sunday over the daunting tarmac roads of the Epynt ranges in mid-Wales.
The pace among the BHRC field was so fierce that Smith/Nichols would have
finished third overall in the concurrent modern event, up among the WRC cars!

Another great result for XS Racing came from Sean Lockyear and Chris Wood who finished sixth overall and third in class C4 in their Porsche 911. Despite competing over Epynt for the first time, they turned in a great performance as the car ran faultlessly. By the end of the rally they were third in class, only headed by Smith and McRae.

“We gradually got quicker and quicker as we got more confident with the car and Epynt,” said Lockyear, who now lies fifth overall in the BHRC after three of the nine rallies.
